Lead-in-Training

Following (6) successful months of employment at Britescape as a Gardener or successful previous employment in this type of work, and observable leadership qualities, Gardeners are poised to move into a “Lead-in-Training” position. This position will serve as on-the-job training for future Lead Gardener positions.

 

The Lead-in-Training Gardener will be working towards proficiency in performing all tasks of landscape maintenance and serve as a direct Customer Representative for the company. This position is an integral part of the Garden Services Team.

 

As a part of our Garden Services Team, the Lead-in-Training Gardener will share responsibility for daily oversight of the on-site property management of assigned Clientele. The Lead-in-Training Gardener will work in partnership with the assigned Crew Members, and Department Managers, to ensure our services meet Client expectations and Britescape standards. 

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

 

COMMUNICATION

  • Communicates proactively and frequently with Department Manager and assigned Clients to ensure high quality and service expectations are delivered accordingly

    • Communicates Client needs to Department Manager within 24 hours. 

    • Develops positive relational rapport with all assigned Clients

    • When an on-site situation arises inform Department Manager. When possible, make every effort to inform the Client on-site before they contact Britescape.

    • Developing positive leadership with on-site team

  • Addresses all situations with a positive attitude

  • Proactively problem solves situations with fellow Crew Members and Clientele through anticipation of needs and challenges

  • Attend Lead Gardener meetings and weekly Team meetings 

  • Act as a trusted representative and partner of Britescape and of the Garden Services Team by continuing to enhance Britescape’s reputation, by representing and by conducting one’s self in a professional manner at all times

TEAM EXPECTATIONS

  • Be on time daily

  • Begin to provide Supervision for assigned Crew Members.

    • Lead by Example with a positive attitude.

    • Ensure adherence to all Britescape standards and Core Values. 

    • Participate in daily morning crew meetings

  • Encourage feedback discussions in truck at completion of day

  • Enforce compliance, according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration(OSHA) standards, to ensure safety on client sites and while driving. (See Driving Handbook)

    • Safely work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions 

  • Help maintain tools & materials ensuring they are accounted for and properly functioning.

  • Ensure assigned truck is outfitted with necessary work tools for daily needs

  • Input needed information into Aspire, daily

    • Client Follow Up for Next Visit

  • Keep company trucks clean and organized

 

GARDENING EXPERTISE

  • Maintain every aspect of the residential landscape to meet Britesape standards

    • Property Management

    • Weeding

    • Mulching

    • Mowing

    • Power Sweep

    • Fine Pruning

    • Planting

    • Irrigation & lighting troubleshooting/repair.

  • Understand knowledge gaps and work toward growth using the Progress Rubric as a guide for development

 

CLIENTELE MANAGEMENT

  • Work in tandem with Department Managers to manage budget and project needs

  • Notify Operations Manager to ensure necessary tools and materials are available, when needed.

  • Identify Enhancement projects that can be presented to Clients, as needed.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERTISE

In tandem with the Department Managers, Lead-in-Training will develop a Career Improvement Plan to further prepare for promotion to Lead Gardener.

  • Pursuing one of the following:

    • Certified Professional Horticulture (CPH)

    • ECO Pro (optional)

    • Master Pruner (Plant Amnesty)

    • Horticulture / Botany degree (optional)

  • Meet with Department Managers after 90 days in the Lead-in-Training position to discuss Progress Rubric 

  • Meet with Department Managers after 6 months in the Lead-in-Training position to discuss Progress Rubric, and potential promotion to full Lead Gardener position

Professional Reviews will occur:

  • 90 days

  • 6 months

  • Annually

 

Pay Range

  • $25+ (DOE) Full Benefit Package (Full Time Employment)

  • 40 hours / week
